Spheres of Relationship (not influence)
We often hear the phrase “spheres of influence” in conversations about leadership. It sounds strategic. Impressive. But, can we be real? It also sounds a bit transactional and inauthentic.
Let’s shift the focus. Instead of thinking about who we influence, what if we paid attention to who we are in relationship with?
Your spheres of relationship are the people you already interact with regularly. Not as an expert or “influencer”, but as a real person who shows up with presence and intention.
Your spheres of relationship are the people who already hear your voice, already notice your presence and already are impacted by your life.
Yep. It’s true. Your leadership impact already exists in the places where you are already known.
Your leadership is in how you listen, how your interact, how you handle conflict, how you speak and in all the things you do everyday in normal life.
Leadership isn’t something we build, chase or earn. Leadership is a practice within the relationships we already have.
So instead of asking, How can I grow my influence?
Ask, How can I be more present and intentional in the relationships I already have?
That’s where leadership begins, and, honestly, it’s where it matters most.
With you in the journey,
Justine
Reflection:
What are the spheres of relationship you already have? What kind of presence do you bring into those relationships and spaces?
