Who’s Responsible for Your Development? (Spoiler: It’s You)
There’s a cultural belief many of us live by: If we work hard and wait patiently, someone will eventually notice us. If we are good enough, someone will choose us, open doors and help us become who we’re meant to be.
But here’s the truth: no one is coming to lead you into your full potential.
You are responsible for your own growth.
It’s okay to long for guidance. To want wise mentors and skilled coaches. To wish someone would see your strengths and develop you.
But the leaders you’re hoping will see and choose you are busy and focused on their responsibilities. I know that’s disappointing. But now that you know, you can become your own advocate and make a new plan.
Decide that your life is worth building with intention.
Choose yourself for leadership development.
This doesn’t mean you don’t need others. It just means you stop waiting for permission.
It means you take a new view of yourself and move toward growth because your development matters.
You get to name your hopes and dreams.
You get to invest in your potential.
You get to choose ongoing learning.
You get to initiate conversations and opportunities.
You get to create a lifestyle with rhythms that build you up.
Choosing yourself is not arrogance. It’s ownership. It’s stepping into the truth that you are already worth investing in.
It’s time to embrace that you are responsible for your own development. And begin…
With you on the journey,
Justine
